An old resident of Southland, James Miller, who died at Win ton last week, came to New Zealand from Bantin, Kilsyth, Stirlingshire, Scotland, in 1862, landing at Lyttelton. He did contracting work in the Canterbury district for. some years before going to Southland.

Himiona Kohai, chief of the Ngatipariri hapu of the Mauopoko tribe, is dead, aged 55. For many years he had resided at Hokio Stream (says the Levin Chronicle), and he was a well-, known and popular figure all along the coast, by reason of his genial humour and bright disposition.

A Press Association telegram from Greymouth says that Mrs F. Campbell, wife of Mr Felix Campbell, chairman of the Grey Harbour Board and a leading citizen of the town, died on Tuesday evening, after a long illness. Deceased was one of the pioneers of the Coast, and was highly respected and esteemed.

A number of footballers and football enthusiasts gathered in the Commercial Hotel at Pahiatua the other evening, to make a presentation to Mr F. Zillwood. who is leaving Pahiatua to take up farming pursuits in the Wairarapa. In making tho presentation, which consisted of a silver tea-service and silver-mounted oak tray, Mr E. Darley said that Mr Zillwood had been a true sport and had done much to foster football in the Bush district.

London Truth states that BisJioo Wallis. late of the See of Auckland (sin). New Zealand, has been presented by the Bishop of Salisbury to the living of St. Peter's and St. Paul's, Marlborough, made vacant by the resignation of Canon Wordsworth, who takes tin his residence in Salisbury. Bishoo Wallis refused the more valuable living of Potteme, near Devizes.
