BUTTER IN STORE.

A SHORTAGE. The Quantity of butter In boxes held in store throughout New Zealand on May 31st, according to returns furnished bv the Dairy Commissioner of the Agricultural Department are as follow: — Boxes. I Auckland 13,150 New Plymouth 5,740 J Patea 1,819 J Wellington 9,306 Lyttelton 366 Dunedin 2,041 Total 32,422 The quantity of butter in store at the end of May, 1910, was 41,273 boxes. At the beginning of last month there were 40,724 boxes in store as against 32,723 boxes on April 31st, 1910, an increase for 1911 of 8001 boxes. If these 8001 surplus boxes be taken account of it will be seen that there is a shorta-ge for the two months j of 16,852 boxes.
