THE TERRITORIALS.
REGISTRATION IN MASTERTON
To-day is the last day for the registration of cadets and territorials under New Zealand's new defence scheme. Up to last night the. total number registered in the Wairara,pa district, for which Stfcff-Sergfc.-Major McChristell is the receiving officer, was 1138. The total is made up of 658 youths between the ages of 14 and 18 years, whof have neVer before served,, and 345 from 18 to 21 years of age'Vho have had no previous service. The balance of 135, all of• whom with the exception of two or three are of er the age of 18 years, are at present serving" In addition to the above total, 37 application .papers have been returned for corrections. There are still about 300 in the district who have not -' yet enrolled.- All those failing to register after 7 p.m. to-day will be penalised according to the provisions of the Defence Act. For this week alone 181 applications for enrolment have been received.
