STRANGE CASE.

CHARGE OF ATTEMPTED FRAUD

OFFICER AND HIS WIFE BEFORE THE COURT.

(Received May 31, 9 a.m.)

LONDON. May 30. At Edinburgh great interest is being taken in the trial of Lieutenant Cameron and his wife, who were arrested in February last, while, it is alleged, endeavouring to obtain insurance money by misrepresentation, to the effect that Mrs Cameron bad, while looking in a shop window, been assaulted and robbed of jewellery (the subject of the insurance) worth £6500. Two servant girls swore that no one was near Mrs Cameron when she said. "I have been robbed of a necklace." A detective gave evidence to the effect that the theft of anything from beneath tho sealskin coat worn by Mrs Cameron would have been impossible. The case wa,s adjourned. (Received Last Night. 10.40 o'clock.) LONDON, May 31. The Crown suggests that the insurance wa.s effected upon an imitation nearl necklace obtained on approval from a Recent Street jeweller. Amelia. Blasen, a French maid, gave evidence that she posted letters from Cannes, at the request of Ernestine Tenes. Mrs Cameron's maid. The Crown suggests that the>e were bogus, and from a mythical person named "BiNv Walker," who is not traceable. "Walker's" letters contained a romantic story, to the effect that the pearls were the price of Mrs Walker's shame, and that Walker gave them to Mrs Cameron at his daughter's request.
