MAURICEVILLE COUNTY COUNCIL.

j MONTHLY MEETING, I The usual monthly meeting of the Council was held on Saturday, the 27th Inst. Present—Ors. F. W. H. Rummer (Chairman), H. J. I>agg, 0. Isakson, E. Pedersen, and C. Churchill Jackson. Mr J. Farrow wrote desiring to be informed what amount of 'thirds" had 'been received from (section 31, Block XIV., Tararua, and requesting that it be used for a wire foot bridge over the Makakahi -River at the frontage of the section.— The Clerk said that the Receiver of Land Revenue, in reply to an inquiry, stated that the amount payable was the third of 15 years' rents, -and the final balance had recently been paid over to the Council. A copy of the Receiver's letter had been -sent to Mr Farrow. The total "thirds" coming ' from .section 31 was a little over £l2. The Under-Secretary for Public Works forwarded forms upon which to make applications for assistance , in the matter of road and bridge con- ■ struetion works; desiring such to be ] sent in to the Minister without delay.

The following tenders were received for the maintenance of Jackson's Road:— H. R. Blade £35 yearly; W. R. Pedersen £32 10s (accepted).

Crs. Isakson and Pedersen reported that they had inspected the defective bridge on Mount Bruce Road, and suggested that the reconstruction be held over until the season is more favourable for the .work. It was resolved to fall in with the proposal of the . Stratford County Council relative to reduced railway charge on imported hardwood.

It was decided that the roadman employ an extra man to assist him in making a. horse track round the big slip on Mangarai Road. C:r Jackson was authorised to get the .shoulders taken off on. Mangamahoe Road, and the centre rounded up.

Accounts amounting to £138.13s od were passed, for payment.
