LABOUR DEPARTMENT CRITICISED.
ITS ABOLITION SUGGESTED
By Telegraph—Treus Associatinn
WELLINGTON, Yesterday
. A-heated discission took placs between a deputation- from the Furniture Makers' Union and the Minister for Labour on the subject of tho Labour Department. The Union reiterated its contention that it had no faith in the Department, owing to its refusal to take to Court breaches of the award brought under its notice by the Union, and claimed the right of itself taking cases, and of bringing them before the court at "Wellington from other parts of the district. Mr Millar strongly opposed such a proposal. He said he would amend the Act so as to divide the district into a number of minor districts in order that oases may be heard in or near to places where alleged breaches have occurred. He added if unions generally passed a resolution in favour of abolishing the Labour Department he would be Avilling to introduce a Bill to that effect.
