DEBATE IN THE COMMONS
(Received Last Night, 11.25 o'clock.) LONDON, May 30. In the House of Commons, the Insurance Bill was read a second time, after the application of the closure. Mr Ramsay Macdonald, Leader of the Labour Party, advocated that instead of the worker paying fourpence, tho State, the employer, and the worker each pay threepence. Mr Joseph Chamberlain said he believed that the voluntary contributions to the hospital would decrease. He suggested the provision of dentistry, also married women receiving deferred payment for the first ten years of their married life, when their expenses were highest. The Hon. D. Lloyd-George, replying, said Mr Macdonald's proposal would cost an extra £3,000,000. He warned the members of the House of the danger of increasing the National liabilities. Ho did not think the working class fully realised the magnitude of the Bill. Many of the doctors' criticisms were based on ignorance. ...
