BAND CONTEST.
CHRISTGHTJKOH, Last Night
A deputation repres en ting the South Isiland Bands Association waited on the Mayor relative to tbs Band Contest .to be held in the city .in November next, and asked .for the Mayor's sympathetic interest in the contest. The deputation <ilfo asked if he would use his influence to enlist the sympathy of the -members of the City Council, to ensure the success of the fixture. The omtr>F,t would last a,bout a week. The deputation wished the Mayor and City Council to interest themselves in the matter; and to call a meeting o ftbe public, at which a contest committee would be appointed. The Mayor expressed his own personal sympathy with the proposal, and promised to bring the matter before the Council at its meeting on Monday evening. He believed that the Council would give the project it® cordial support, and would endorse the .suggestion that an invitation be extended to the Association to hold its oontest in Christchurch.
