IMPERIAL CONFERENCE.
THE NATIONAL STATUS. (Received Last Night, 10 o'clock.) - LONDON, May 23. The Chronicle anticipates that the first development of the Imperial Conference will be the recognition of the national status of the Dominions, by the separation of the rest of the Colonies. The programme shows how large is the sphere of co-operation in various matters. The first step in the development of the Conference would be the appointment of a secretariat. The paper asks; "Might' not the Secretariat be Imperialised?"
PRESS OPINIONS
(Received Last Night, 10 o'clock.)
LOISFDON, May 23
The "Express" states: "Once in every four years the Prime Ministers of the Dominions spend a month in England, and we show our sense of the privilege by getting it known what they have to say by making it impossible to hear their voices."
The "Morning Leader" hopes that, without impairing the efficiency of the Conference, a satisfactory method will be found. It was gratifying and very natural that the public should desire to hear what such welcome visitors as Sir Wilfrid Laurier. General Botha, and the Hon. A. Fisher would have to say.
