Councillor Elliott was suffipientiy recovered from his recent illness to Be able to attend the meeting of the Masterton Borough Council last evening. He was cordially welcomed by his fellow councillors.
Lieut.' Robinson, of the Territorial Forces, who is supervising the organisation of the Junior and Senior Cadets, is'at present on a visit to Masterton,
Mr H. B. Dyer has accepted the position of hon. secretary to St. Matthew's Vestry, Masterton, vacated by Mr W. B. Chennells.
Mrs W. Prentice, of Napier, is at present on a few days' visit to Masterton.
Miss R. Woodman, who has been postmistress at Pongaroa for the last three years, has been transferred to Wellington. She is being succeeded by Mr Steele, of Napier.
'Dr. Chadwick, who is about leaving Eketalrana for the Old Country, was presented by the members of the Eketahuna Club on Saturday, with a gold sovereign case, filled with sovereigns.
Mrs John Vile, senr., who has been <t resident of Pahiatua for many years, attained her ninety-fourth year on Sunday. Although tiro old lady has seen so many summers, she is hale and hearty, and is able to walk about, town.
One of the Canterbury Pilgrims. Mr Robert Evans, died at Kaiapoi on Saturday. Mr Evans, accompanied by his wife and two children, was a passenger by the Cressy. the last of the first four ships to arrive in Lyttelton.
A London cable states that Lord Ourzon has been elected President of the Royal Geographical Society.
