AMUSEMENTS.

THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES.

Long before eight o'clock last nighlt the Foresters' Hall av»s packed to witness the change of iprogramime. Nor did the /audience go away disappointed, tfor the programme exhibited was undoubtedly one of the finest ever presented to a Mas.ter.ton audi- j enoe. The "star" picture of the I evening was "Frank Gardiner, Bushranger," which, ranging over two separate spools, was .most interesting and exciting. The story starts with Gardiner being accused of stealing his. father's money, and being ordered to leave home. This he does, and shortly afterwards meets Annie Brown, who plays a prominent part in the piece throughout, and eventually becomes his wife. Cattle stealing is indulged in by the bushranger, who is caught and imprisoned in a Victorian gaol, from which he eventually escapes. He is next seen sticking up a mailman, and relieving him of his letters. The Bendigo Battery is the next scene of adventure, and 2000oz. of gold is stolen from it. The bushranger is traced by the police, who capture him in Fogg's Inn, where, after a hard fight, they bind Mm to a chair. He is eventually released by Annie Brown after an exciting tussle with a troopar. The pair escape to } Queensland, and settle down, where, after a number of years, Gardiner is recognised, arrested, and sentenced to 34 years' imprisonment. After being in gaol for a few years Gardiner is released on a good conduct ticket, and .sent to South America, where he lived for many years with his wife and daughter. He died at Valparaiso a few years ago. Supporting this magnificent picture are the following .masterpieces:— "Bis Trust" and "His Trust Fulfilled" (a ; splendid drama and its sequel), "The. American Count (comedy drama),. "Love, Luck and Gasolene" (a splendid Vitagraph picture), "The Bygland Fjords," ">Ma-in-law Skating," and "A Dull Razor." The programme will be repeated this evening.
