TREATMENT OF CONSUMPTION.!
INCOME TAX RESOLUTIONS PASSED. (Received This Morning, 12.5 o'clock.) LONDON, May 18. In the Budget debate in the House of Commons, the Hon. A. J. Balfour welcomed the proposed expenditure on the cure of consumption. He warned the Government, however ,that there was an exaggerated enthusiasm in the publis mind concerning the sanatorium treatment. It was, he said, possible to waste money on permanent buildings which would be better devoted to a scientific investigation of the causes of the disease. There was a great movement in favour of attempting to deal with tuberculosis in the home.
| The Right Hon. D. Lloyd-George replied, stating that he was establishing a special fund to provide for scientific investigation. He hoped that the sanatoria would attract specialists. He added, that Germany spent more money than was necessary in buildings. It was needless to spend thouands per bed. A hundred pounds per bed would, he said, provide quite good enough buildings. ' The income tax resolutions were passed.
