HOCKEY.
MEN'S MATCHES. The cup competitions under the auspices of the Wairarapa Hockey .Association were continued in very unfavourable weather. Rain fell throughout the whole of the afternoon, and the grounds were in a bad state. Results: — >■ .' SENIOR. CARTERTON v. MASTERTON. Masterton put up a good fight against the heavy Carterton team, but were defeated by two goals to nil. The- game was very even, but the wet did not allow of a good exposition of hockey. Carterton hare won. all three .matches they have played, and are eomsequenttly one point ahead of the next team, St.' Matthew's. ST:'MATTHEW'S v. P. AND T. St. Matthew's and P. and T. met at Lansdowne, and the match, resulted, in a draw, neither iside having scored. Both teams had opportunities to shoot goals, but they were missed on account of the ball and sticks heing slippery , with the wet. The game was a very hard fought out one, and was slightly in favour of the P. and T. team.
JUNIOR. EXCELSIOR v. CARTERTON. Excelsior juniors defeated Carterton by 5 goals. ,to nil, afiber a bard fought game, of which Excelsior juniors bad the .best. For .the winners, Fly (2), Word, Tory and J. Long scored goals. LADIES' MATCHES. RAMBLER v. HUIA. The ladies' matches were commenced at Lansdowne, when the Rambler nnd Huia 'teams met. Botih teams bad one player missing, and several emergencies filled the places of absentees. The Ramblers completely outclassed the Huias, , tihe score being eight goals to nil. Huia only succeeded in getting in the circle on one occasion, but tbey were soon sen* down 'the field again. The goals were shot by A. O'Leary (4), N. Hanley (2), K. O'Leary and N. O'Dowd. Mr A. Pragnell was referee.
