PALMERSTON N.,Last Night
The steamers Himitangi and Wairau collided in the narrow channel in the Manawatu river ?.t midnight last night. . . , The Wairau was struck amidships and slewed round with her stern on to the b%hk, where she now lies with her bows under water. The crew of nine got safely ashore with their baggage. . The Himitangi is apparently uninjured, and proceeds to Wanganui. The Wairau was ooal-laden, and was inward bound.
