ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

A child, Noel Mclndor, aged twentytwo months, drank a quantity of rat poison from a saucer at his parents' residence at Stanley Bay on Saturday afternoon. The mother administered an emetic and a doctor's services wore secured, but the child died yesterday afternoon. ROTORUA, Last Night. Jolm Leonard Edson, aged twelve, was drowned in a pool near "Whakarewarewa yesterday. He was playing at sailing boats with a younger brother, when both got oiit of their depth. The younger lad managed to get to the bank, but the elder sank immediately. A Maori named Haoro was' seriously burnt on Saturday night owing to liis tent, catching fire from a candle left burning during his sleep. ! A later message states that Haora has died from his injuries. CHRISTCURCH, Last Night. Jean Yviqucl, a young Fiench woman, Mas lost overboard from the schooner Eliza Firth on Thursday morning. The schooner was voyaging from Kaipara to Lyttelton, and when off Stephen Island, while shortening sail, Yviquel slipped on the deck and fell through the railing. A lifebuoy was thrown by a sailor, but she failed to reach it, and though a boat got away smartly it was too lato to effect a rescue. Deceased was about 19 years old and came to LyUelton a. year ago in tho French barque. Marie.
