WAS RARAPA ASSOCIATION. CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITIONS. Tlie championship competitions under the aaispic.es of the Wairarapa. Hockey Association were continued yesterday. The grounds Ave re rather slippery, and the first part of the matches was played in the rain. The results are as follow: SENSOR r.iATGKES. CARTERTON v. EXCELSIOR. The Carterton and E:;ee!sior seniors met at Lansdowne, and a very evenly contested, game resulted ia favour of the former by one goal to nil. Carterton had the upper- hand in the first spell, and got within ilw circle on several occasions, but b:rl shooting caused the loss of gca's.. The only goal was cleverly scored by Read,from a. scramble.' Excelsior livened up considerably in the second half, and made repeated attempts to score, but the defensive work of Morgan and Ellis wes too. good to break through. W. Williams and G. Scrimgeour shone out in the back section, while Ay Williams and C. Smith, were the pick of the forwards. For Carterton, Reid and TunnieMe did the best work in the forwards. Mr F. Rosson was referee. ST. MATTHEW'S v. MASTERTON. The above match was also played at Lansdowne, and was also a very even contest. The form shown was not as good as in the other senior match. Rue, who played a good game for Master-ton, soored a goal in the first half. Just on the call of time Hatch shot two goals' in quick succession for St. Matthew'®. The back section of St. Matthew's, | of which N, Boyd and W. Hendry | were the was fairly strong, but the forwards persisted in bunching, | which spoiled the play a good deal. I Rue, White and"' P. Fraser were among the best of the Masterton forwards, and H. Fraser and Gray acquitted therffeelves well in the backs. Mr W. Fisher was referee. JUNIOR MATCHES. DALEFIELD v. ST. MATTHEW'S. Dalefield defeated St, Matthew's, at Dalefield, by 2 goals to nil, after a hard fought out game. MARTLNBOROUG.H v. CARTERTON. Martinjborough completely outclassed Carterton, defeating them by 10 goals to nil. The (losers did not get a chance during the whole of the game.
