A "TINPOT" COUNTY.

[To The Editor.'} Sir, — I must, as a ratepayer of ! thirteen 'years' standing, take exception to tli? latter part of Mr W. H. DalzielPs letter of the 10th inst., in which he says that it is tile fault of the Government, which allows large to be cut up into such tinpot little counties .that not one of them can afford to keep a really competent staff to do their work. Now, I maintain that it is the best thing that ever happened to us the day we were cut off from the Masterton County. The ifloads dn this "tinpot" county have been improved beyond all expectations, from a sea of mud and hog-holes, to a- motor-car track all the year round. v Why, in front of my house the coateh with five horses attached was bogged. Besides improving the roads, so that traffic ea,n go on. all the winter without interruption, there are about five I miles of new roads fanned and four : miles mieta.ll.ed with good ©tones. : When Castlepoint wias part of Masi terton County, the engineer would | make periodical visits, and the road- | men were practically doing what they liked. Now the rates are all spent in the County, and the road overseer, Mr W. M. Collins, is daily travelling over the roads and at once ; repairs any, damaged part. The j Castlepoint Comity Council have a | very icomrpetemt staff, and the rate- '. payers desire no change. In voicing the feelings of the ratepayers, I ; can safely say that w.e are all very i grateful to Mr Dalziell, and all other j pais* ■and, (present Councillors, for i the good work they have done for j the County, and if Mr Dakield can see his way clear to again offer his services, he will be elected at the top of the poll. But do let u,s remain a "tinpot" County.— I am, etc., W. H. BROOKS. Thmi, May 11, 1911.
