The postponement of. the Hawke'is Bay races owing to the weather will upset the calcuiatjous of rirany. The chances of W'oodhey in th' Cup are, however, stall considered good, though Cheddar is expected to run well.
Lord SouLt broke down badly at Hastings' last week. Tyraarnjkv who suffered an injury to his shoulder, is in Pahiatua, and will probably be put inito work again shoTttily. i . •
Gold Lace will make a first effort to: capture a, long-distance race at Hastings.
Acceptances for the Greao Northern Steeplechase close to-<morrow. The running of Bobriboff in the Por&ngabau Handicap at Havvke's Bay is being looked forward to with some interest by admirers of the onentime champion. (Much interest is being taken in the meeting between ..Royal Scotch and Bootle in the Handicap at ■ Hastings.- .Both youngsters haye shown wiinnin^-form lately, and surprise was expresisea" when Mr Coyle assessed: Royal' Sooteh as superior to Bootle. The latter is well suited to a. five-furlong course, as he proved at Ellerslae, but douihts are expressed as to his gameness, and with Royal Scotidh to w>nry him all the way it is hard to say how the Birkenhead colt will shape.
