The Right Hon. Mr Harcourt, Right Hon. Sydney Buxton, Lieut.Col. Soely, Sir William Hall-Jones, Lady and Miss Ward, Dr. Findlay and 250 members attended the luncheon tendered to Sir Joseph Ward by the New Zealand members of the Houso of Commons.
The speaker propcsing Sir Joseph Ward's health, said the members of the Housm of Commons had watched his long ccreer with gfeat interest. They woald never forget New Zealand's timely offer of a Dreadnought to help the Navy when a time of possible stress was aheml.
Sir Joseph Ward received a great reception on rising to reply. He said New Zealand recognised that anything they did to help the motherland was also helping New Zealand and the other Dominions to maintain the strength of the whole Empire. He hoped as an outcome of the Conference some practical system would be inaugurated for the assistance and preservation of the Empire. He was proud to see New Zealand so worthily represented in the House of Commons.
