AUSTRALIAN RAILWAYS.
REDUCTION IN FARES. Received This Morning, 12.20 o'clock. 'SYDNEY. May 8. From the 25th inst., a reduction in railway fares and freights 'will come into operation, totalling approximately £50,000, chiefly made up of goods conveyed in the interests of farmers and other producers of distant districts. Return fares will be abolished, excepting in suburban lines. The two single fares will lie made equivalent to the return, the idea being to squeeze out ticket "scalpers."
