PERSONAL.
Mr Henry Moore, one of the typhoid fever patients at the Masterton Hospital, passed away yesterday. The deceased, who was only 28 years of age and single, was in a very critical condition when brought into Masterton from Eketahuna. He had only been in the Dominion a few months, and it is understood he has no relations here. His remains will be interred in the cemetery this afternoon.
Mr L. Dixon, of Greymouth (son of Mr J. Dixon, of Masterton), who recently joined the ranks of the Benedicts, is, accompanied by his wife, at present on a visit to Masterton.
Captain Burnett Hitchcock, of the Royal Fusiliers, has been selected for duty in New Zealand, according to a. cable from London last night.
A London cable, received last night, states that Madame Melba has arrived ,&i London, and will open with the opera "La Bohetne" on Wednesday. Madame Melba will sail for Australia on July 13.

Mr W. L. Falconer will leave Masterton shortly on a visit to the Old Country.
Messrs H. Morrison and J. C. Cooper have been appointed to represent the Mastcrton branch of the Farmers' Union at the Provincial Conference to bo held at Woodville on May 30th.
Mr J. C. Cooper will meet.the Committee of the Reform Party at Pahiatua to-morrow to further, discuss tho question of "his candidature for the Pahiatua seat. '
■ Dr Chadwick, of Eketahuna, has di-Dosed.of his practice to Dr. F. R. Hotopn, lato House Surgeon of the Dune-din Hospital. Dr. Chadwick leaves for England this month.
A Wanganui telegram states that Mr A. Pepper, who is retiring on supernr.iniation after twenty-eight t years* service, was entertained by a large nrmber of railway men on Saturday night and presented wit.h a purse of sovereigns. • ' •': • ■

Riddiford took place at Lower Hu-tt on Friday, and was very largely attendee!. A number of Wairarapa sett'orn were among the mourners. Tho death is announced of an old "Wnn- <: r :.\:w\ identity, in the person of Mrs Hkies. The deceased had attained the ripo ago of eighty-five years." ,
Mr Frank.Morton, the well-known iournu7i«t, is at .present lyitig seriously ill. at a private hospital at Auckland.
A quiet wedding was celebrated at the parsonage, Worksop Road, on Saturday afternoon, by the Her. S. J. Serpell, when Mr Harry Llewellyn Price, eldest son of the., late. Se.rgt. John Price, was married to Mrs Lilian Fernee, eldest daughter of the Into George Sidders} of Whitstable, England.
The Wairarapa .Rugby Union decided, on Saturday night to nominate Mr T). K. Logan, of Masterton, as a Vice-President of the New Zealand Ilugby Union.
