AMATEUR SCULLING.
AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHSPS. (Reoeived Last Night, 5.5 o'clock.) SYDNEY, May 7. The amateur sculling, championship was won by McVilly (Tasmania), with Towns (N.S.W.) second, and Stevens (Victoria) third. These were the only starters. McVilly won. by four lengths. The eight-oar championship resulted as follows: New Sov.th Wales 1, Victoria 2, Tasmania 3, South Australia 4, and Wectralia 5. New South Wales won easily, having led from the start. Victoria and Tasmania had a magnificent tussle for second 1 and there w»°.s .never half a ."length repira'.ing them. Victoria finished a third cf a length ahead, with South Australia a length away fourth. Westralia and Queensland were outclassed after a mile and a half had b;en covered. The race is described' as the most spectacular one witnessed. For over a. mile the five bonts wore, abreast, led by New South Wales. Time, 17min. 23sec.
