SIXTH ANNUAL MEETING. The sixth annual meeting of the Masterton Young Men's Christian Association was held last evening. The President (Mr P. L. Hollings) was in the chair, and there was a fair attendance.
Telegrams of greeting were received from the Levin and Invercargill Associations. The annual report as published in another column was read and adopt-, ed.
The President expressed his gratitude at the successful year that had been experienced. Mr Hollings referred in eulogistic terms to the wonderful work of the secretary (Mr A. Snowball) who had been instrumental in obtaining the new gymnasium, in which .splendid work was being carried on by Messrs Jarrett, B.- -Donald, and A. Williams. Reference was also made to Mr Snowball's good work among the life-saving scholars. The President also spoke highly of the splendid support of the public, but he expressed the hope ithat still more support would be received in future.
Dr Prior also spoke of the splendid work that" was being carried on in the institution, and stated that he would like to 'see outsiders coming along to inspect the work and see for themselves what was being done. •
Mr J. Pryor said that one of the Association's .weak points was the membership, which he thought should be largely increased. Mr G. Falla urged the senior mem-, berg to assist the secretary ih the boys' department, which was undoubtedly the foundation of the Association.
The balance sheet, which showed the overdraft to be £299 15s sd, and the excess of assets over liabilities £747 9s Bd, was also read.' and adopted. Before the election of officers took place, the retiring President stated that he could not again accept nomination for the position. He had held the position for six years, but had for private reasons to relinquish the Presidency. Mr Boilings concluded by saying that he would do aU in Ms power ito assist the new President.
The following officers were elected : Dr. N. H. Prior; VicePresidents, Messrs A. Hendry, G. Faiia, E. H. Waddington, P. L. Hollings, J. Pryor, and D. Threadwell; Ordinary Board Members, Messrs R. Sutherland, Goldsmith, and R. E. Jones; Treasurer, Mr C. Ibbetson; Honorary Secretary, Mr H. McHattie.
The seeretary was instructed t© write to the secretary of the Ladies' Auxiliary, thanking them for their, work in collecting and providing the refreshments for the weekly strangers' tea. It was reported that over £B4 had been received towards the secretary's salary, and many promises had been made. A vote of condolence was passed to the relatives of the late Mr H. Holmes, and the secretary! was instructed to write a letter to Mrs Holmes' in appreciation of the interest and help the late gentleman had given the Association. A motion recommending the Board to take -steps to obtain a billiard ( table was passed. The retiring President was acr corded a' hearty vote of thanks for his invaluable and untiring work for the Association. Mr Snowball was also accorded a vote of thanks for his successful work. The caretakers (Mi: and Mrs Clough) were thanked for their' attention to their duties.
