TE WHARAU.
Heavy rain has fallen during the past week, and has every indication of continuing. ' The surrounding country already looks greatly benefited. Deer stalking is now practically over for the season, very few firstclass heads having been secured. The football season was opened here on Saturday, a match being played between Gladstone and Te Wharau teams. Although the first match of the season a very good game was witnessed, and resulted in a draw, neither side scoring. Mr Alf Johnson acted as referee. The visiting team was entertained in the evening at an excellent dinner provided 'by Mr F. C. Cotter, of the Excelsior .boarding-house. The wet weather has suspended all poisoning operations, and consequently a number of men are temporarily out of ; work. .... ........ .. . .a Mr H.
