SCHOOL COMMITTEES
ANNUAL MEETiNC OF HOUSEHOLDERS. MASTERTON. The annual meeting of householders for the election of a District High School Committee was held in the Masterton Drill Hall last evening. About fifty persons were present. The chair was occupied by Mr R. Brown (chairman of the retiring Committee). The report for the past year (already published in the Age) was read. In moving the adoption of the report, the chairman paid a tribute to the teaching staff, and stated that the Committee was indebted as well to the Trust Lands Trustees for their [ usual liberal grants. Mr Brown pointed out that the question of the agricultural classes was now on & satisfactory footing. Referring to a portion of the report dealing with .the assembly room at the school, Mr A. H. Vile said he would be glad if the Committee would renew its application. As a member of the Education Board, he would do his best to impress the Department with the importance of the ingThe motion for the adoption of the report was then put and carried. On the motion of Mr H. O'Leary, it was decided that renewed application be made to the Education Department, through the Board, for a grant in aid of the assembly hall, i The election of a Committee for the ensuing year resulted as follows: R. Brown 49 A. Hendry 47 A. W. Chapman 45 T. J. Thompson 45 E. H. Waddington 45 G. Hyde 43 W. E. Perry 39 L. J. Hughes 37 E. Pragnell 37 A. Snowball 27 The first nine were declared elected. The various members present returned thanks for their election. On the motion cf Mr Chapman, seconded by Mr W. H. Jackson, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the retiring Committee. Votes of thanks were also passed to Messrs Thompson and Payne, J. C. Ewington, and the teaching staff. • At a subsequent meeting of the new Committee, Mr R. Brown was reelected chairman and Mr W. M. Barnett, the head teacher. There was a good ottndance, notwithstanding the wet weather. OPAKL— Pierce Cotter (Chairman and Secretary), A". J. StoneWigg, R. Perry, J. Bourke, W. Henson, W. Mowbray, T.
