MASTERTON BOROUGH ELECTION.
It is gratifying to find that the burgesses are to be given an opportunity of expressing their approval, or otherwise, of the past conduct of the Borough Council. An election is a healthy thing in respect of all forms of local government. Although at the present time there are no important questions agitating the public mind, there is no telling what might arise in the course of a couple of years, the period for which a Council is elected. One might reasonably feel disappointed that a larger number of our prominent citizens have not offered their services to the Borough. Still, if a wise selection is made from those candidates offering themselves, satisfactory work may be done. There are not a few who consider that the personnel of our Council would be improved if the Mayor were elected from the Council, as is the case in some parts of Australia.
