SOCIAL AT KOPUARANGA.
PRESENTATION TO MR G. A. DONOVAN.
At the farewell cosial at Kopuarariga on Thursday evening in' honour of Mr G. A. Donovan, who is leaving the district to take up farming in Gisborno district, there was a lavg-3 attendance. Mr C. C. Jacksci p'esided, and ho was supported on the stoge by Messrs A. W. Hogg, M.P., 11. D. McKenzie, G. Bruce, and others. The Chairman presented Mr Donovan with an illuminated address, on behalf of the settlers of Kopuaranga, and in doing so referred briefly t-o the many services rendered to Kopuaranga by the guest of the evening. _ Mr Hogg made a most appropriate speech, which was well-punctuated by applause from the audience. Mr'R. D. McKenzie, who had oeen a schoolfellow of Mr Donovan, and a neighbour for many years, also spoke of Mr Donovan's departure as a distinct loss to the district. On rising to reply, Mr Donovan was received with loud applause. He said he greatly appreciated tho kind remarks of the different speakers, and it was the proudest, if not the hop piest, moment of his life, to be so honoured, and to be the recipient of sJ beautiful an address. Whatever ne had done in the district had been a pleasure to him, for the reason _ that those he had been associated with in all these matters had so willingly assisted him. Mr F. F. Day then presented Mr Donovan with a handsome pair of field glasses and a silver whisky flasti suitably inscribed, on behalf of the ladies of Kopuaranga, and the chairman made a further presentation of a silver-mounted walking stick, Mr Donovan acknowledged the gift? in a few well chosen words. After the presentations were made the following most enjoyable programme was rendered : —Songs. "Lighterman Tom," "The Silver Cup," and "Three Men in a BoEßfc," Mr Stewart; songs, "Love's Old Sweet Way," "I Know not Why," and "A Petty from Peter," Miss [Harbroe; songs, "Thord," "Good Company," and "Nirvana," Mr Green. A number of Masterton vocalists who were to have contributed to the programme, were prevented on account of the rain. Supper was provided by the ladies, after which the hall was cleared, and dancing indulged jn until the early hours of the morning.
