A HAPPY SEND-OFF.
■ ♦ TO MR AND MRS TOOGOOD. Thefe was a large gathering of settlers at the Kohiwai homestead yesterday, to bia good-bye to Mr and, Mrs H. Toogood, who are leaving next week on a nine-months' health and pleasure trip to the Old Country. ./Mr H. iMorrison, of Awatoetoe, on behalf of the East Coast settler?,' pre- | sented Mr Toogood with a handsome j dressing case. Mr Morrison referred to the excellent work which had been done by Mr Toogood as a County Councillor, and compared the roads ' in the district to-day with what they were a few years back. Mrs Toogood was also praised for her unfailing hospitality and kindness.
The remarks of Mr Morrison were cordially endorsed by Messrs T. P. Lett and W. C. Buchanan, M.P. The latter stated that Mr and Mrs Toogood were ideal settlers, and had earned the confidence and respect of all with whom they had come in contact. The proceedings terminated with hearty cheers for Mr and Mrs Toogood. The visitors were entertained at afternoon tea By' Mrs Toogood.
