WAIRARAPA HUNT.
FIRST MEET OF THE SEASON. The first run of the season in connection with the Wairarapa Hunt was held at Opaki yesterday. Although the weather conditions were unfavourable, there was a fair, atteiidance.- A most enjoyable day was spent, and the one or two spills which occurred lent added interest to the sport. The Huntsman (Mr Tas. ■Smith) is to be congratulated on the splendid form displayed by his "pack," which did excellent work during the afternoon. The drag was laid by Mr W. H. Buick on Fires-tick. The throw-off took place on Mr P. ■Cotter's property, and the run was continued through the estates of Messrs Charles Bannister, W. H. Buick '("Hawkhurst"), R. Buick ("Matahiwi"), and J. Hart, finishing at Mr W. H. Buick's. Amongst those following*, were:— Messrs C. F. Vallance (Master) on Oakley; Tas. Smith (Huntsman), on Gret; H. Falloon, on Frolic ;,W. Lett on Laddie; A. Watson, on Sylvia Maid; F. Oarr on Motoua; C. Westimoreland, oil Minota; R. Miller, on Destroyer; Norman Moore, on Hatuta; W. H. Garrett, on Daisy Bell; G. M. McKay, on Feal. At the conclusion of the hunt, those present were entertained at afternoon tea at the residence of Mr W. H. Buick. , Mr C. F. Vallance, on behalf of the visitors, extended thanks' for the hospitality accorded to them, and the gathering dispersed with three cheers for Mr/and Mrs Buick.
The next meet will take place at Claiwille' on May 4th.
