MEXICO CITY, April 19

Armistice proposals have been received by President Diaz and the Government from the insurrector's agents at Washington, and a favourable answer has been returned.

Apologies have been made to the United States for the accidental killing of the citizens of Douglas, in Arizona, but the Mexican Cabinet has pointed out that most of the shooting was done by American filibusters, who were aiding the rebels. . The rebels have abandoned Agi:rprieta in consequence of shortage of ammunition. The latest statement is that the casualties do not exceed thirty dead and fifty wounded. The Federals occupied the town, and a number of rebels crossed the / frontier and surrendered to the Ameri'i can authorities. WASHINGTON, April 20. Congress is unlikely to intervene in Mexico. The , Democrats abandoned their threatened attack upon Mr Taft's despatch of troops to the Mexican frontier. Resolutions will be proposed in the House asking the Foreign Affairs Committee to investigate the situa- j tion, with,special reference to frontier i happenings.

It is reported that a thousand rebels are preparing at attack Alixcp: A Federal farce left Aguaprieta, intending to* attack a band of revolutionists seen in the neighbouring hills. WASHINGTON. April 20. The Mexican Ambassador assured President Taft, in an interview, that peace will soon be re-established.
