Mr Mackay has been elected Mayor of Wanganui for the sixth successive term.
A press telegram from Greymouth announces the death of Mr Evan Evans, aged 91, also of Mrs G. Blackmore They were two of the oldest identities en the coast.
Mr A. Lo Soeuf, director of the Sydney Zoological Gardens, who has, been invited by the Wellington City Council to report upon the Zoo at Newtown Park, arrived in Wellington by the Warrimoo from Sydney on Wednesday, v
Mv Thomas Ingley, senr., of Greytown, died on Wednesday, at the age of 91, years. He was one of the first residents of Greytown and was greatly respected by all who knew him. Hon. Jfos. Carroll,, Acting-Premier, is in Auckland, the Hon. J. A. Millar, Minister for Railways, is at *Taupo, and the Hon. G. Fowlds at Rotorua.
A Christchurch Press Association telegram records the death, at the age of sixty-four, of Mr Heindrich Kohn, proprietor of Peterson and Co.'s jew-, ellery" business. ";
Mr J. A. Dudson, who succeeded to the Mayoral chair of Carterton on the death of Mr Adam Armstrong, was unable to nominate for the position tlais year, he being managing director of the Wairarapa Brick .and Tile Coy., a. trading concern which does business with tho Corporation. Mr A. J. Joblin, of Taihape, is a candidate for the representation of the Ci'own tenants on the Land Board. At the last election Mr Joblin polled remarkably* well.
'Messrs J. C. Cooper and H. T. Ellingham are, according to our Pahiatua correspondent, mentioned as.likely candidates for the Pahiatua seat in the Opposition interest. Mr Jo-soph William Percy, eldest son of the late Mr J. H. Percy, of Petone, was married at Kuripuni, Masterton, yesterday, to Miss Mary Scott, third daughter of Mrs J. Scott, of Kurinum. The ceremony was performed by the Rev, Father Harnett. The bride was dressed in a pretty wine-colo?ii;ed tailor-made | costume, with hat to match, and was. attended by Miss Maggiei,, Scott, who was attired in white embroidered muslin. Mr R. Hatch acted as best man. The newly-married couple left on their' honeymoon tour by the afternoon train. A'reception was held at tho residence of the bride's parent.
