A LOVE TRAGEDY

DUEL FOa A WIFE.

FIGHT WITH HORSEWHIPS

(Received April 19, 8.5 a.m.)

VIENNA, April 18,

Two carters at Baja, in Hungary, each loving the daughter of a farmer, agreed to fight a duel for her with heavy horsewhips, the girl promising to marry the winner. They stripped themselves to the waists and fastened themselves to posts—this to prevent either running away. Then they belaboured each other until the horrified girl ran for help. The combatants were discovered senseless, and the duel was declared a. draw.
