WAIRARAPA RACING CLUB.

SECOND DAY'S RACING. The second clay's racing in connection with the Wairarapa Racing Club took place at Tauherenikau yesterday. The weather was fine, though dull. There was a large attendance of the public, and a good day's sport was provided. The course was in good order, though a little on the heavy side. The totalisator investments showed an increase on the opening day, the amount put through the machine being £8744. The total for the meeting was .£15,996, as against £II,OOO for the same meeting last year. The arrangements were again all that could be desired, the events being got off well to time. Only one objection was raised during the day", and that was lodged against McKay, the rider of Black Reef in the second race, on the ground that he had weighed in short. The Stewards dismissed the objection on the ground that under a new rule of the Club it is not necessary to weigh in with the bridle. The Autumn Handicap was won by Gunboat, after a severe tussle with Sea Queen. The results were as follow:

ROTOTAWAI HANDICAP, of 115 sovs, six furlangs: — 4 M. Lavery's bf Britisn' Maid, '• (Merrie England—Waituru) 3 yrs, 7.3, (W. Kirk) 1 2 J. J. Corry's Bracken 6 yrs, 8.9, (Traill) 2 3W. From an indifferent, start, Simplex being left at the post, Bracken assumed the lead, with British Maid in attendance. Rounding the willows, the pair had a clear advantage of three lengths. Coming to the straight, British Maid drew out, and although Bracken stuck gamely to the Merrie England filly, he was beaten by a full length at the finish. # A length separated the second and third horses, the rest being in a bunch sev-r eral lengths away. Kohupatiki was the first to show in front, a»d soon established a lead of several lengths. Vite and Lady Volley were lying next,' with the rest in a bunch. On entering the straight Vite took charge, with Lady Volleynext. At the distance Black Reef came away fast, and snatched a victory by three-quarters of a length from Vite, who was a short neck in front of Lady Volley. Time, Imin 30 3-ssecs. Also started—3 Aimwell 8.10 (McDonald), 8 Afterthought 8.1 (George), 6 Hilarian 7.7 (Cairns), 4 Manupai 7.7 (Eva), 5 Longwood 7.7 (Catt), 7 Succession 7.2 (Kirk). After some difficulty at the post, Afterthought got away in the lead, but was soon joined by Succession. At the back of the course Successioa was leading. At the willows Sea Queen and Gunboat cfme through. At the entrance to the straight these two were racing together, Mataari made a run at the distance, but could not get up. A ding-dong finish j.esulted in a win for Gunboat'by a short head, a length separating the, second and third horses. Succession was fourth, and Hilarian last. Time, Imin 43secs. Septimus and Merrie Fly got the best of the start, and led the field for some distance. Coming round by the willows Undecided moved up. On entering the straight Merrie Fly fell back, and Undecided took command, eventually winning by four lengths from Septimus, who beat Happy New Year by half a length. Time, Imin 15 3-ssecs. JUVENILE HANDICAP, of 85 sovs, five furlongs:— 1 E. Lonergan's blk f Blue Lake, (Royal Fusilier —Blue River), 2 yrs, 9.0, (Cairns) 1 3 C. B. Pharajsvn's Longstep, 3 1 yrs, 8.6, (Traill) 2 5 G. Lambton 6.7 (Gordon), 7 Compliment 6.7 (Marchant), 8 Confusion 6.7 (McKay). Sinapis gave some trouble at the post, and eventually got away badly. Blue Lake was the first to show in front ,and was followed by Longstep. This order %vas maintained until nearing the straight, when Longstep got on level terms with the leader. Killaloo also came fast. Half way down the straight Blue Lake drew out and won comfortably by a length and a half. Longstep beat Killaloo for second place by half a length. Time, Imin 2secs. TAUHERENIKAU HANDICAP, of 100 sovs, five furlongs:— 4. J. J. Corry's Beacon, 5 yrs, (Euroicvdon —Guiding Star), 8.3, (Traill) 1 6 C. F. Vallance's Simplex, aged, 8.3, (McKay) 2 3 Weri Pewene's Naumai, 2 yrs, 10.9, (Carmont) 3 (Winner trained by F. Carmont.) Also started—2 Merrie Frank 9.2 (McDonald), 1 Bally Shannon 8.13 (Miller), 8 Gawain 8.2 (Watson), 5 Leahora 8.2 (George), 9 Pukarau 7.9 (O'Halloran), 7 Palestine 7.7 (Cairns). Naumai got the best of a fair start, and kept the lead until well into the straight. A few strides from home Beacon and Simplex came away very fast, and the former won on the post by a short neck, half a neck between second and third. Bally Shannon got away badly Time, Imin 3secs.

Carmont's Aurora, 5 yrs, 9.0 (Carmont) 3 (Winner trained^ by V. Cotton.) Also started—Rumble, Whatarangi, Dogfish, St. Alma. Stoneyfalls, All Gold, Beulah, Bonny Boy, and Egypt. Varna got the best of a straggling start, and won with the utmost -?a>3 by a couple of lengths I from Tobias, who came quickly at the [ finish. , Time, 48secs.
