Madame Antonia Dolores appears in Masterton on Friday, April 28th. According to a Paris cable, Madame Judie, the actress, is dead.
The death is announced by cable of Sir Henry Taschefeau, ex-Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada. A Berlin cable says the. newspaper laokal lAuzeiger announces; the death, of Lady Halle, the famous violinist.
Mr J. Archer, the newly-appointed Town Clerk and Borough Engineer, is now in Masterton. Mr Archer will lake up his municipal duties to-day. Mr J. C Cooper authorises us to state that there is 1 no truth in the rumour circulated that he intends contesting/the Pahiatua seat at theforthcoming election. Mr J. Craigie, M.P., announces chat, owing to his other public duties, he will not be a candidate for the Timaru Harbour Board, of which he has been chairman for the last four years.
Miss Thompson, assistant teacher at the Kaiparoro school, has received notice of har appointment to a similar positioi nt Puriri, Auckland, and she wil 1 probably be leaving at the end of the month to take up her new duties. The Kopuaranga Sports Club is to lose the services of its capable secretary, Mr G. A. Donovan, who is leavv / ing the district to/take up farming in Gisborne. Mr Donovan has been secretary of the club for the last seven years, and will be greatly missed by the sporting community of that district. Mr M. R. Varnham, of the firm of Messrs Varnham and Rose, architects, Masterton, requests us to correct the impression that is v abroad that he is leaving Masterton. Mr E. Rose will be retiring from the business to follow farming pursuits, but the business will still be conducted by Mr Varnham. An announcement to this effect will made later. M v Tames Morgan, advance representative .or "The .Wanderers'"' Musical Comedy Company, which' is being introduced to New Zealand by Mr George Stevenson, and which is r , present flaying to packed and entln. iastic houses in Wellington, was in Masterton yesterday arranging for a. two nights' season in the Town Hall, opening .«n Monday, April 24th.
