A VICTIM OF DRINK.
IN A VERY BAD WAY
HAULED FROM A DAM
Late on Sunday night last the Masterton police received word that ■a man named Thomas Yates, who had recently been employed at the Waingawa freezing works, was suffering very badly from delirium tremens. Constables Dumphy and Brown immediately drove out to Wai'ngawa, and found the man to be, in a shocking condition. He was dripping with water, having just been hauled from a large dam into which he had either fallen or thrown himself. He was quickly removed to the- police station, where he spent the night. Yesterday morning Yates was brought before Mr Eli Smith, J.P., and remanded to Wellington for seven days for medical treatment.
Yates is a widower, and his family are living in Wellington.
