THE NEW STREET.
The question is being asked in Masterton as to whether 'the betterment will be applied to those properties which would derive special advantage by the making of the new street between Queen and Chapel Streets. His Worship the Mayor made it clear at the statutory meeting on Thursday, night that the properties which are now being acquired in connection with the formation of the street will be required to pay a betterment. If the amount cannot be mutually arranged, a commission will be set up to .adjust it.
