Extensive ancient aboriginal burying grounds have been discovered in South Australia. Immense interest has been roused amongst anthropologists.
The North German Gazette, in welcoming the Crown Prince .tnd Princess on their return from their journey to the Far East, acknowledges the warmth of their reception in India, and adds that the journey has been a complete success for the Crown Prince, and a lasting gain for the Empire.
The Western Canadian coal owners affected by the Crows Nest strike have informed the Labour Department that they welcome the proposal of government interference with a view to compulsory arbitration. The owners had previously offered arbitration, but the miners had refused.
After six days' hearing, the Exeter election petition has been decided in favour of Mr H. E. Duke, who has been declared elected by one vote The scrutiny was most exciting, and the fortunes of the candidates veered about until to-day, when the parties started level. Mr St. Maur's tally clerk admitted Sumssg teen paid for his services, and his vote was disallowed, thus giving the election to Sir Duke.
Mr Holmar states that the- alleged shortage 'if labour in. Sydney applies only to some trades, though he admitted that there was a shortage fn' the building and manufacturing industries. He said that the Government was prepared to appoint a Commission to ascertain the actual facts, and how far they can be .met by industrial and educational reform. For financial reasons an advanced immigration policy must be left to the Federal Government. Mr Fisher will discuss immigration whilst in England.
