TIMARU PRESBYTERY.
TIMARU, Last Night
At the Timaru Presbytery, a remit from the Assemibly suggesting that the Presbytery should urge the people to vote No-iicense gave rise to discussion. A motion was made that ft be left to each minister to help the cause of temperance in the manner lie thinks best, and the seconder added that No-lie?:ise should not be a test question i;i selecting a minister. An amendment that che Presbytery do urge on the people the desirability of voting No-license was carried by six t-o four. The eight ministers present equally divided, two elders giving the majority. Another .remit was presented expressing sympathy with labour and recommending Presbyteffes where necessary to appoint committees to learn the aims of me labour movement and foster fraternal relations between the church and labour.
No action was taken, the ministers saying that they hadi studied the movement, and that the ministers should know no class distinctions. Tiie majority of church people had to work with hand or brain for their living.
