THE MAKURI SCHEME.
A LITTLE SATIRE. In an article dealing with the Makuri electric power scheme, and the deputation to the Hon. R. MeKenzie, the Evening Post says:— Towards the end! of last session, just when the Government was booming its scheme of electricity for the million, representatives! of local bodies had a conference in or near Pahiatua. One afternoon they drove out to have an inquest on Makuri; they viewed the great body of water, drove back, and resolved that Makuri should be brought to electrical life with all possible despatch. The Minister, too, says that he is "satisfied from what lie knows of the Makuri scheme, that there is good power tnere." It is just a pretty detail, of course, that Air McKenzie is not an electrical expert. 1 The important detail is that he is Minister of Public Works, and that a general election will take place inside of nine months.
