TURF MOTES. (By "Zetland.") The gallop executed by Lady Medallist at Randwick on Thursday, when she covered six furlongs in 1 min. ISJsec., goes to show that the St. Alwynne mare is very well. Although a proved stayer, Lady Medallist is an exceptionally brilliant sprinter, and although the opposition she will have to meet will undoubtedly be strong, she may be depended upon to at least run very prominently on ''the other side."
The Rover is proving a very profitable member of the team to his lessee, Mr A. M. Wright. As winner recently of the Woodville Cup, Masterton Cup, and Longburn Handicap he has returned a substantial amount in stake money. In appearance the son of Advance does not rank at all high, but it is another case of "handsome is that handsome does." Present favourites for the Great Easter are Gold Lace, Obsono and My Lawyer, and' for the Great Autumn Iranni and Rose Noble are the most fancied.
The three-year-old Adhilles filly Peirene showed 'her best form in the Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes. The time for the six furlongs, limn. 14 sees., proves the filly retains her speed, and also that she will be a difficult proposition for the opposition to overcome at Auckland.
Antoinette, the favourite for the Auckland Easter Handicap, fell on the road the other day, aaid is now doing only walking exercise. Mr T. H. Lowry's tri», Cullman, Sea Pink and Bellah have arrived at Ellerslie to take part in the Auckland meeting. Full Rate, 9st 131b, has been given his full share of weight in the Manga one Stakes at Fejldmg,. and if he goes lip to the meeting may find some of the lighter weights such as Tigerine 7st 10ib, Birkline 7st 41b, Jackpin 7st 31b, and Mon Ami 6st 111b, hard to beat.
The Feilding Cup weights show careful compilation. The Rover, at last, is well up in the weights with Bst lOll), while John Bst 21b and Teotane 7st 71b, arc among the best handicapped in the race.
