DISTRICT NEWS.

(From Our Own Correspondents.) CARTERTON. At a meeting of the Waiohine RhVr Board, it was by special order directed that a rate of 3d in the £ be made and levied on the rateable pi-operties as appearing on tho \ alnation Roll in force for the year commencing 011 the Ist dav of April, 1911, and ending on the first day of March, 1912, such rate to b? payable'in one sum on tho Ist dav of April, 1911. Tho local branch of the Wairarapa Egg Circle has been advised that the ruling price for eggs is Is 7d a dozen.

Trophies have been presented to the Hinemoa ladies' Hockey Club by Messrs A. J. Lindop and H. Keltic, while Mr W. C. Buchanan. M.P.. has donated a guinea- towards the funds. Mr F. Judd, who has been a useful member of the Waiohine River Board for a considerable period, has resigned owing to having left the district. On Saturday afternoon a number of members of the Carterton Football Club held a- very successful practice. In view of the championship fixtures, it behoves all players to get into training. A long-night dance, the proceeds being in aid of the hall funds, is to be held at Clareville on Thursday next. Tho local bowling club is arranging an Easter tourney, and it is probable that several rinks will go to Petone.

A guinea donation is acknowledged from Mr W. C. Buchanan. M.P., by the Carterton Football Club. A miniature rifle range i.s being erected on Messrs Stevens Bros.' property, who have kindly placed the ground at the disposal of the Belvedere School Committee for the purpose.

Mr TT. T. Cole, a well-known settler of Carrington. had the misfortune to lose his dwelling and contents by firo at an earlv hour on Saturday morning. Mr Cole was awakened by the intense heat, and had to leave in his nisrht-atf-ire. The insurance totals £35. the risk being held by the South British Office.
