COW-TESTING ASSOCIATIONS.
A PROGRESS REPORT,
Mr W. M. Singleton, Assistant Director of the Dairy Produce Division of the Agricultural Department, reports that the fifth poriod for the r four cow-testing associations being *4>peratod by the Diviskm evidenced a falling off in the production of both milk and butter-fat iiv each of the associations. For periods ending between the January and I,4th February, the yields 'i th" average ■cow in the respective associations has varied from 27.511b to ,'tt.62lb, whereas during the previous period the variation was from 31.541!) to .'16.071b. Mr Singleton says that had the cows proper feed and plenty of good water, the variation should not show this marked decrease. The spe-cial-purpose dairy cow, with some feed from a soiling crop in addition to ordinary pasture, will not show such abnormal decreases in yield as some of thess herds evidence.
