AN INTERESTING CASE.
An interesting case concerning the j rights of fire-brigades was heard in j the Magistrate's Court at Christ- \ church yesterday. On 7th January a fire engine on its way to a fire collided with a cab, the proprietor of I which sued the Fire Board for dami ages. The Board admitted that the engine turned the ■comer on the wrong side, but claimed that under the Fir© Boards Act it had power to send the engine to a fire at all pos- ) s sible speed, and therefore was not lia- / ble. The Board also claimed that it was not liable because the Brigade Superintendent was a statutory officer with duties defined by law. The case was not concluded.
