MEETING OF CREDITORS.

! ESTATE OF RIMEXE WITINITAKA. A meeting of creditors in the estate of Rimene Witinitara, bankrupt, was held in the Courthouse, Masterton, yesterday, before Mr W. B. Cheimclls, 8.0.A'. Tlie debtor was examined by Mr Hollings on behalf of certain creditors, Mr Ellers interpreting. He said he was one of 30 owners of a block of 250 acres. He had tried to get his title, but could not. The coirs and horses he had bought belonged to his brother or j his sons. His brother gav« him the | money to file with. He had not agreed to sell his share of the laud to his brother. He had a share of £4OO borrowed from the Govern merit on another block of land in March, 1910. His share was £BO, and it went to keep his family in food and pay for doctors. He had no cattle or horses of his own. The D.O.A. said that apparently if a Maori filed the land in which he was joint owner did not pass to the Official Assignee in bankruptcy. If credit was given to the Maoris the creditors had to take their chano© of payment. As for stock, it was difficult to trace ownership where Maoris are , concerned when they denied ownership. Mr Hollings represented Mr Gibberd, of Christehureh, and Mr R. K. Jackson represented the bankrupt.
