WAS IT INTENDED P QUESTION OF INCOME TAX. (Received Last Night, 10.45 o'clock.) LONDON, April 5. Much comment has been caused by the fact that a number of the largest Railway Companies and business houses have not received income tax demands in time to enable them to pay for the last financial year. This is attributed to the Hon. D. Lloyd George knowing that his surplus was assured, and having desired to prevent the income tax going automatically into the old sinking funds. Tho Hon. C. Hobhouse, Financial Secretary of tho Treasury, admits the fact, and states that it was due to a subordinate's mistake.
