DISTRICT NURSE FUND.

——<► —:— DEPUTATION TO HOSPITAL BOARD. A SUB-COMMITTEE TO REPORT. A deputation consisting of Messrs Donald and J. Hunter, Mrs Cbradirie and Miss Gillespie, waited upon the. Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board yesterday in reference to the proposal to appoint a district nurse to the Masterton district. Mr Donald stated that the deputation was the outcome of a public meeting held on Monday, evening. As a.result of a bazaar, public subscription, etc.,- a sum of £370 was available for. the appointment of district nurses. Dr Valintine had suggested that the matter be taken, up by the Hospital"Board. It was thought that, if the Board administered the fund, the Government subsidy would be available on this and other sub- K scriptions. The deputation thought that, with the £BOO which would be available, two or three district nurses might at once be appointed. These would be available, not only to Masterton, but to the outlying districts.'A local committee would be very pleased to assist the Board. Mr J. Hunter endorsed the remarks of Mr Donald, and added that the nurses would be available to* the whole of the hospital district.. It was considered that each nurse' would cost, with travelling expenses, £l5O. The chairman said the deputation had opened up a wide question. He thought a sub-committee should be set up to investigate the proposal. They should not make appointments which would be for one year only, but should endeavour to ascertain if the Ambulance Society and others would be willing to make an annual contribution. . On the motion of Mr McLeod, who said he sympathised with the project, a sub-committee consisting of the chairman and Messrs Fisher, Ewington, Cameron and Beetham were set up to >confer, with the deputation and report to the next meeting.
