ALTERATIONS OPPOSED

LONDON, April 4
Tho proposed King Edward Memorial has aroused many protests from newspapers, and members of the House of Commons, and from those who wish to preserve the sylvan aspects of St. James' Palace. * Replying to a question in tho Hour;.of Commons, Mr W. Dudley Ward. Liberal M.P. for Southampton, promised to again suggest to the Mansion House Committee, the desirability of erecting the statue by McKennall in front of the Admiralty arch in Trafalgar Square.
Critics object to the straightening of the road and tho rebuilding of St. James' Bridge.
