THE PUBLIC PARK.

ITo The Editor.}

Sir, — A3 a recent arrival in Masterton I venture to say a word in praise of the toyfn aijd its, cleanly appearance, Tlie ( Public Park is. an asset burgesses should; be proud of, with the nicely laid out grounds and well-kept Oval. There is a stretch of land to the north' of the Oval, including the lake area, which I am informed belongs to the Park. It seems to me that plot -of land could, with advantage be laid out in native tree* and with grawl walks, rookeries and fountains. a As tlie town Park Beautifying Committer, I would respectfully bring jthis suggestion under their notice. The public reserve in New Plymouth attracts visitors from far and near, and I think Masterton might will take a lesson from the northern town in laying out this portion of the Park. Without a doubt many of tite residents would contribute towards the cost of the improvements. - I am, etc., ARBORETUM.
