AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS.
The Australasian Amateur Athletic Championship meeting is to be held this year in New Zealand. From present indications, Wellington is unlikely to be the centre for the meeting. The suggestion has been made that some locality possessed of suitable grounds, not far removed from the city, should' be selected. Is it. unreasonable to ask that Masterton be the centre? Here we have a magnificent recreation ground in the pub'lic park, a climate which is subject to very little variation, a community which enthusiastically supports amateur athletics, and a district which would be sure to produce a handsome "gate."- The matter is ome which is deserving of consideration. Possibly the Amateur Athletic Club will have something to say regarding the question. In the meantime, Masterton can lay claim to having successfully controlled gatherings almost, if not quite, as important as this.
