THE RABBIT PEST.

GISBORNE, Last Night. For some considerable time the Poverty Bay district has been menaced by a rabbit invasion, fche .pest being in great numbers in Wairoa, Opotiki, and surrounding districts. The efforts of the East Coast Rabbit Board in appointing inspectors with large staffs of men in the local- ' ities mentioned have done a great '; deal towards keeping down the pest but Inspector Turner, of Wairoa, reported recently that a rabbit was discovered in the bacrf of the Park ' racecourse, three miles from Gisborne. A reward has been offered for its capture, but so far it has been resultless. A further report received a few days ago stated that a rabbit had; been seen between Hicks Bay and Whangaparoa, some distance up the coast,in a locality in which rabbits were ' not hitherto seen. Some uneasiness was caused/ by the report, and in each case stringent measures are being taken of a precautionary nature.
